Cut the Complaining: Day #2
Cut the Complaining. “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.”
A few questions have arisen for me…
Is stating a fact that is less than appealing or “positive” the same as complaining? Or is it simply a statement of fact? For example: “Gosh it’s hot today!” This could be a complaint or a statement of fact depending on the tone, number of repetitions, and so on.
What about stating a preference? Like if I order in a restaurant and what I get is different from what I ordered, am I complaining when I ask the manager or server to fix the mistake and bring me a new steak?
Another question: what is the difference between complaining and standing up for yourself? As someone who has sometimes struggled with being too compliant or tolerant, it is important for me to remember that not complaining could also be misconstrued as not speaking up for myself or failing to honor my needs or boundaries.
I am grateful for the opportunity to explore this more.
