Beautifully Adventurous and Bravely Soft
Yesterday I posted a drawing I did of two hearts. I was not really satisfied with it and could not get the image out of my mind of how I wished it looked. Here is a different and more pleasing version of my rose-colored heart.
I think I actually love this one. Again, I used acrylic marker, sharpie, and watercolor paint. However, this time, watercolor is the dominant medium by about 99%. That is a major shift.
There are many metaphors I could share as to how this drawing represents me. One of those is that as I grow, I become more fluid and transparent like watercolors.
This particular piece also shimmers, which I love. The colors are beautiful and soft while they catch and radiate the light. I'd like to think I'm like that, too.
This palate of watercolor paint also feels really smooth, going onto the canvas in a way, nothing else I've used has. It almost feels like putting on a really comfy sweater or slipping underneath your favorite blanket.
Yesterday, in addition to the new colors, I tried a new brush. Wow, what a difference that made. By holding on to the old brush and mediums so stubbornly, I had been keeping myself from moving forward to embrace something new and exciting.
I will admit that sometimes trying new things is hard for me. It's a little weird to say that because I'm also an adventurer and love new experiences.
But as with many other things in life, we can get stuck in old habits and practices simply because that's the way things have always been done. It seems safer, but the truth is there is often a better way.
Here's to being beautifully adventurous and bravely soft as we capture and radiate light through our hearts.
