Moving From the Expected to the Authentic

It's no secret that sunflowers have long been a part of my brand and identity. It actually started before my books "The Sunflower Princess: A Healing Fairy Tale" and "Sunflower Wisdom: Find and Follow the Light in Your Life," when a former boyfriend gave me an impromptu title of "My Sunflower Princess." 🌻

From that title, the first book was born, and the making of one of my most notable "brand" elements began. In fact, in photos, I am often pictured with sunflowers, and a striking, golden beauty is in my business/marketing/mindset coaching logo, as you can see.

Thus, it seemed natural to bring the sunflower into my Felicia Brown Original logo. I mean, people love sunflowers, and I'm already known for my connection to them. It seemed like the obvious choice, right?

So we tried it. I had my awesome illustrator and executive assistant, Andy, create a new logo for the growing art and photo inspired designs. And I liked it - a lot.

But it just didn't feel...original. Instead, in the scary new world of me claiming my place as an artist, it felt like I was trying to stay safe by clinging to a sunflower-shaped life preserver. Despite its timeless beauty, the sunflower logo felt like I was trying to conform to other people's expectations of me and make sure I still looked like the person they already knew.

I won't go so far as to say that the sunflower logo felt like a lie. I still love sunflowers and everything they stand for. However, the FBO sunflower logo just didn't feel like a proper representation of the artist or the designs I am creating.

A single bloom of Purple Columbine was what inspired me to start creating the designs and patterns for my leggings and other clothing. Earlier this year, I took a picture of one that really touched my spirit, which left me wanting to find ways to have it with me all the time.

Though I love flowers of all kinds, this particular beauty is one of my very favorite spring bloomers. However, as gorgeous and prolific as they can be, they do not grow well in every garden.

Instead, this purple posy seems to be very intentional, putting its roots down and thriving only where it is properly nourished and supported. There's like a shooting star it explodes with brilliance, blazing a trail for others to follow and flower beside.

Kind of deep thoughts about a flower and logo, but would you expect anything different from me? 🪻

Anyway, in case you haven't seen it, I'm excited to share my new logo for Felicia Brown Originals. Like the flower that inspired it, I really love it.
